Vinyl flooring scheme 'benefits the environment'

An industry-led scheme to recycle used vinyl flooring has collected 155 tonnes over the past 12 months.

PRW.com reports that the Recofloor programme celebrates its first anniversary this month, after its founding last year by leading floor manufacturers.

Uplifted vinyl, safety flooring and off-cuts from floors were used during the collection, with an estimated 175 tonnes being projected as the recycling target for next year.

Project manager for Recofloor Jane Gardner of Axion Consulting claimed that one of the biggest challenges for the scheme was developing an efficient and cost-effective collection method, while maintaining sustainability.

"This is now a reality with large volumes of flooring being diverted from landfill - benefiting the environment and reducing waste disposal costs for members," she said.

News of the scheme comes after a Telford home was praised in an Easier article, which claimed its vinyl flooring was one of the "plethora" of features which made the property so desirable.
