Wood 'is an eternal medium for home improvements'

People wishing to update their living rooms, kitchens or dining rooms could opt for wood or laminate flooring.

Interior designers Genevieve Gorder, Candice Olson and Vern Yip told the Canadian Press that natural-looking options are getting more popular again as DIYers seek to bring a timeless feel to their rooms.

Commenting that wood is "the one medium that is eternal", Ms Gorder added: "It's been in interiors since the beginning of time. There's nothing else like it."

For home improvers on a budget, laminate flooring was suggested as a great alternative to real wood thanks to its realistic look and practicality.

Ms Olson recommended either having it installed professionally or purchasing a good sponge or cork underlay along with the flooring itself to prevent the material feeling hollow when it is walked on.

This follows a recent article in the Shropshire Star, which said that laminate or wood floors can be a great alternative to carpet as they are more practical in case of spillages.
