Wood flooring 'to replace tiles in kitchens and bathrooms'

Wood flooring is likely to be one of the key design trends for kitchens and bathrooms over the next decade, an interior designer has predicted.
Pat Ryan, a kitchen and bath designer for Penny Lumber in Greenport, told the Riverhead News-Review that more people were choosing 50s-inspired designs.
On the floor, that means dispensing with traditional tiles and laying wood flooring, he explained.
Homeowners will choose cabinets with simple doors in honey shades to go with the wood flooring, as well as switching to accent lighting, Mr Ryan added.
The Sunday Times recently forecast that wood flooring would be a popular choice with people restyling their bathrooms in 2010.
It suggested this would be partly influenced by the trend for installing a roll-top bath in the bedroom.
The move will not work well on a carpeted floor, so people planning to shift the bath into their master bedroom will need to ensure they have good quality wood flooring.
