Wood flooring 'should be triple-coated'
Wood flooring which is being varnished should have three coats applied, it has been advised.
A new guide in the Express and Star offers homeowners a range of varnishing tips for their wood flooring and states that rooms should be well ventilated before any varnishing begins.
Similarly, it advised homeowners to make sure the temperature does not drop below ten degrees C and suggests putting the heating on to help with the drying process.
The guide went on to promote a number of ways to make sure the varnishing sticks, such as using the triple-coat system.
"To ensure even coverage and film build, apply three coats of varnish and follow the instructions," it said. "Leave at least two hours between applying the first and second coat of varnish."
In his recent Telegraph column, Jeff Howell stated that many homeowners are often confused over the different types of wood used in flooring and their attributes.
