Wood flooring is 'home construction staple'

Wood flooring is one of the many aspects of home construction which has remained consistent for hundreds of years, it has been suggested.

Writing for the Lexington Herald-Leader, Marshall Brain acknowledged that while modern homes have central heating and electrical wiring, many features have remained unchanged for centuries.

"Home construction is one of those things that really has not changed," he said. "A modern home has central heat … but the structure and common features are remarkably similar."

Mr Brain pointed to the example of houses in Colonial Williamsburg, which feature a number of modern construction staples including wood flooring, casement windows and siding or brick on the outside.

His comments came as he examined the innovative construction methods being used in the new generation of smart homes.

Smart Product Ecosystem Connections recently reported on the increasing popularity of smart homes, which it claimed were once only available to celebrities.
