Wood flooring is a 'savvy' alteration

The use of wood flooring throughout a property is one of many "savvy" alterations an interior design expert has recommended.

Responding to a reader query in a Your Home column, Sharyn Kastelic claimed that transforming a crowded condominium into a "sophisticated" home is simply a matter of making well-planned changes.

She suggested that the reader make use of distressed grey wood flooring in all of the condo's rooms, apart from the master bedroom. There she recommended using a broadloom carpet to create a "comfy" atmosphere.

The kitchen was also named as a key section of the house and Ms Kastelic advised the reader use this important space efficiently.

"I would leave a space under part of the counter for a stool so the cook can rest. Obviously there will also be storage cupboards underneath the rest," she said.

Her advice was echoed by a recent Manila Bulletin article in which columnist Carlomar Daoana claimed that the kitchen has replaced the living room as the most important interior room in a home.
