Wood flooring invokes a 'modern feel' in new Scottish restaurant

Wood flooring has been credited as one of the fixtures responsible for creating a modern feel in a new Scottish restaurant.

Writing for the Scotsman, columnist Richard Bath reviewed the latest Edinburgh eatery from veteran restaurateur Marina Crolla.

Named Angels with Bagpipes after a statue at St Giles Cathedral, Mr Bath was impressed by the contemporary furnishings in the cafe.

"With wooden floors and neutral colours giving an airy, modern feel to this Tardis-like, 90-cover restaurant, it was apparent little expense has been spared," he said.

Mr Bath went on to claim that he could easily become entranced by the hand-printed wallpaper from Timorous Beasties and Tom Dixon pendant lights "for weeks".

Last month, the Sydney Morning Herald's restaurant critic Lenny Ann Low noted the wood flooring of an "upmarket" beach cafe.

She praised the colourful furnishings of Billy's at Balmoral and claimed its unflattering acoustics were compensated for by the sumptuous menu.
