Wood flooring investigation launched by US

Wood flooring companies in China are to be investigated by the US Department of Commerce.

The Global Times reports that the organisation has commissioned an inquiry into the excessively low price of some products and American retailers have suggested adding tariffs of up to 242 per cent.

This follows a decision from the US International Trade Commission in December last year, which ruled that Chinese wood floors "harm" the industry and initiated an investigation on subsidies.

However, the publication claimed that eastern manufacturers will appeal on this issue and quoted an official from the China National Forest Product Association.

"The official [said] that the US is the biggest overseas market for Chinese wood floors, accounting for approximately one third of the total export volume," it explained.

Earlier in the month, 250 News spoke to Jim Jia of LJ Resources Company, who claimed that the demand for timber in China is set to grow.
