Wood flooring 'improves safety of elderly woman's home'

An elderly woman has said she is delighted with the results of a home improvement scheme that has seen new wood flooring laid down in her home.

Widow Edith Gotlibowski, 79, was facing complaints from neighbours after her home was found to be decorated with lead paint, according to an article by the Associated Press which was published in the Hartford Courant.

Her home in Naugatuck Valley had fallen into a state of disrepair, with floors, columns, railings and window frames all in need of some serious work.

However, the Naugatuck Valley Emends Lead Hazards Program stepped in to remove the lead paint and give Ms Gotlibowski some new wood flooring and windows.

She told the news provider she is delighted with the $32,600 (£22,500) project, adding that her late husband "worked too hard" for her to abandon their marital home.
Wood flooring can also improve the wellbeing of younger homeowners.

Last month asthma suffer Lynn Pike told the Star that fitting solid wood flooring in her home has had a "huge impact" on her quality of life.
