Wood flooring 'has changed'
Wood flooring's evolution has been detailed in a new guide to changing DIY trends.
Writing for the Times Bulletin, columnist Jeannine Roediger noted the ways in which home renovation has become more sophisticated over the years.
She recounted the days when properties were furnished with bare wood floors, which lacked any finish at all.
"I remember when they were still raw wood in many cases, not only in homes but in stores," Ms Roediger said. "From there it was linoleum or finished wood floors."
Ms Roediger went on to explain that toilets used to be stationed outside some homes and taking a bath in a metal or wood tub was "commonplace" on a Saturday.
Those who are looking to finish their raw wood floors may want to take the advice of Auburnpub.com columnist Ed Fenzl.
He recently advised homeowners to opt for a fast-drying solution, which can drastically reduce the amount of time needed to wait following the first coating.
