Wood flooring features in Japanese temple

The wood flooring contained in a Japanese temple has been noted in a new travel guide.

Writing for ETH Life, exchange student Samuel Smith reported on his travels around the Japanese capital of Tokyo by bicycle, train and underground.

In his latest entry, he spoke about a trip to Kyoto on the "marvellous" Shinkansen Superexpress train service.

Mr Smith noted the exceptional manners of the "impeccably dressed" crew, who would bow to passengers as they entered and exited carriages.

Despite not staying in the city for a long time, he had time to explore the Kiyomizudera and the historic Nijo Castle, highlighting the ancient wood flooring contained within.

However, the main highlight of Mr Smith's trip was his viewing of the buildings of renowned architect Arata Isozaki, constructed in the 1960s and 1970s.

This comes after Lookout News reported on the "worn" wood floors of an Anglican Church, located in Esquimalt creak.
