Wood flooring 'creates a very rich look'

Wood flooring has been hailed as an easy way to give decor a "formal" feel by an interior design expert.

In a Seattle Times article, Rosemary Sadez Friedmann highlights the importance of colour, stating it can "make or break" a room's look.

She recommends using neutral colour schemes, combined with highlights of gold, greens and blues to "play up" the look of any accessories.

Ms Friedmann also advises renovators to make use of wood, whether in the form of chair rails or wood flooring, in order to give a "classic" touch to a room.

"Wood flooring creates a very rich look and adding dark-hued area rugs will enhance the look even more," she said.

A recent Kansas City Start article also promoted the benefits of changes to flooring, claiming it is one of the "quickest and easiest" methods to update a space.

Ms Friedmann also highlighted the importance of lighting when trying to give decor a formal look, stating that additional overhead lighting is often a good step.
