Wood flooring 'conveys quality'
Many of the environmental benefits for which bamboo is praised as a building material are shared by wood, according to a new guide.
In a recent Eco Home article, columnist Nigel Maynard examined wood flooring and compared it with bamboo, which has seen a surge in popularity in recent years.
He also spoke to several experts and found that solid wood flooring has a number of key benefits.
"There's a good reason why home builders and agents put hardwood floors prominently in their listings and ads. The … value of wood is extremely high and it conveys quality," said Mr Maynard.
An expert also noted that a survey found 90 per cent of real estate agents reported that houses with wood flooring sold faster and for generally higher prices.
Another benefit of wood flooring was discussed in a recent Montreal Gazette article in which a design expert claimed it can often be used to complement a home's wood furnishings.
