Wood flooring 'can reduce allergens'
Homeowners who suffer from allergic reactions have been advised to consider fitting wood flooring in their property.
According to the Marblehead Reporter, wood flooring harbours fewer allergens than other options such as carpets.
Chemicals which are also sometimes found in some carpets are not present in wood flooring, the newspaper added.
It was reporting on the growing trend for green building projects, which is seeing wood floors from renewable sources becoming increasingly popular.
Manchester contractor Jeffrey Karpowicz explained that it was important to him and his wife that their new-build home was sustainable.
"My wife is from Australia where they are very aware that natural resources are finite," he said. "She was quite influential."
Speaking to the Independent recently, interior designer Suzy Hoodless stated that wood flooring has warmth and tone.
She added that those looking to install new flooring should look for quality products as these will last for longer.
