Wood flooring 'can last for generations'
Wood flooring has been hailed as a long-lasting material in a new guide.
DIY agony aunt Tim Carter was queried by one Silive.com reader, who was installing the material himself due to budget constraints.
Mr Carter responded by promoting the durability of wood floors and explained some of the steps the reader would have to take if he did not opt for professional help.
"It's a true art to install … this wood material that can last generations," he said. "And forget anything you've seen on some of the cable television home improvement shows."
Mr Carter emphasised the importance of acclimatising wood flooring to the temperature of a home and noted that it is often a good idea to give timber a couple of days to get used to a property and become "stable".
Jennifer DuBose of Georgia Tech recently advised renovators to ensure they have factored in the time needed for acclimatisation before they start work on a project.
