Wood flooring boasts 'many options' for environmentally-inclined homeowners
There are a range of choices when it comes to environmentally-friendly wood flooring.
This is according to a Richmond Review guide to the material, which noted that reclaimed wood floors, where the timber used is taken from old structures, are becoming increasingly popular.
It stated that lumber can be taken from a wide range of sources, including railroads, barns, homes and river bottoms.
The guide also claimed the "varied history" of the timber will add to its "aesthetic appeal".
"It's important for homeowners to know that the price point for hardwood will vary depending on species and finish," it added.
The guide explained that plain-sawn or flat-sawn boards will have growth rings that differ according to the way in which the planks are cut.
This comes after Romana Williams, wood flooring expert and owner of a US retail outlet, told readers of the Detroit Free Press of the increasing amount of flooring options now available on the market.
