Wood flooring boasts 'environmental benefits'
Wood flooring's environmental benefits have been highlighted in a new guide to sustainability.
US industry body the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) recently promoted the efforts of companies working in the sector to improve their green credentials.
It noted that hardwood trees are increasing in volume from year to year in the US and also pointed to the work done by firms to "get the most out of each log" - using the example of the engineered form of the material.
"Engineered wood floors are made with real wood using a cross-ply construction process that allows for more wood to be used from each log," said the NWFA.
It added that the material's unique manufacturing process makes it viable in areas in which it is usually not advised to use wood flooring.
According to the organisation's website, another benefit of modern wood flooring materials is their ease of maintenance, as they typically only require a regular sweep or vacuum.
