Wood flooring 'appeals to home buyers'
Well-maintained wood flooring can help to make a home more attractive to potential buyers, according to an estate agent.
Although the housing market is showing signs of recovery, it remains difficult to sell property at the price vendors hope to achieve.
Nick Salmon, commercial director of estate agent and valuer Harrison Murray, urged people trying to sell their homes to take some simple steps to ensure it is as presentable as possible.
He explained that traditional features remain appealing to buyers and advised vendors to ensure they are in a good condition.
"Make the most of what you have, ensure original features like fireplaces and wood flooring are shown off to their potential and above all try and stay in keeping with what your property offers," the estate agent said.
He added that vendors should not make the mistake of spending a lot of money on home improvements which suit their own tastes, but may not be attractive to buyers.
Expensive new kitchens and outdoor hot tubs are two improvement projects which are unlikely to attract interest from potential buyers, Mr Salmon said.
