Waterborne resins 'best' for wood flooring
The importance of a quality resin in the maintenance of wood flooring has been explored by one coating expert.
Associate research scientist Margaret Kendi of Bayer MaterialScience LLC explained that the various applications for wood mean that a range of versatile coatings are needed.
At the Southern Society of Coatings Technology's annual meeting this year, she went over the criteria formulators can use to select the correct wood coating, based on what the wood was being used for.
"The key for formulators is to understand the critical properties necessary for their particular coating and which polyurethane dispersions would impart those properties," she said.
Bayer MaterialScience pointed to applications such as wood flooring, furniture and doors as some of the key beneficiaries of its polyurethane coating technologies.
Last month, Valpolife.com published an article in which homeowners were told they can expect "years of beauty" from their wood floors if proper maintenance is carried out.
