View wood flooring 'as a long-term investment'
Wood flooring should be viewed by homeowners as long-term investment, it has been claimed.
Speaking to the Calgary Herald, Darrell Jones, manager of Floors on Crowfoot, said that despite being more expensive than other materials, wood floors will serve to add greater value to a home.
"In terms of expense, hardwood is definitely pricier than floor coverings such as carpet, but you need to view it as long-term investment," he told the publication.
Mr Jones compared wood flooring with carpet and noted that the latter would need to be replaced on several occasions over a 30-year period, whereas timber can be refinished to "look like new" a vast number of times.
Similar advice was recently issued by veteran builder Tim Carter, who told SILive.com that well-maintained wood floors can potentially last "for generations".
Mr Jones went on to promote the benefits of engineered wood flooring and observed that it can be installed in places which would be unsuitable for normal hardwood.
