'Use mats' to protect wood flooring
Homeowners have been advised to use coverings to protect their wood flooring.
Writing for Tips-opinions.com, columnist Andrew Veazey highlighted the ease of maintenance associated with wood flooring but also warned that several factors can cause premature damage to the furnishing.
"The main cause for damage of hardwood floor is dust, grit and sand," he said. "You can keep the mats on the wood floor to prevent the damage."
Mr Veazey went on to state that solid wood floors are also at risk from water damage and warned against keeping plant pots or bowls on the surfaces.
Similarly, he claimed that homeowners should avoid hard cleaners, such as oil soaps and recommended the use of neutral pH substances, specially designed for use on hardwood floors.
Earlier in the week, the Columbus Dispatch reported that floor coverings such as rugs can provide a good buffer to prevent sound echoing through wood floors.
