'Use fast-drying varnish' on wood flooring

Fast-drying varnish has been promoted in a new guide to interior design.

Writing for auburnpub.com, columnist Ed Fenzl informed the owners of wood floors that they have a new option when it comes to finishing the material.

He claimed a number of hardware stores are now stocking the new range of varnishes, which can significantly reduce the time required to pause after the initial coating.

"With standard old varnish, one needed to wait a day or two between coats," said Mr Fenzl. "With new fast-drying varnishes, one can sand and apply the second coat after only two hours."

However, he went on to note that these new varnish products tend to be more expensive than their traditional counterparts but described the purchase as an "excellent investment", which allows homeowners to refinish a whole room in a single weekend.

This comes after Kansas City Star columnist Gene Austin claimed that refinishing is the only "practical option" available to those who wish to restore their wood floors to a "uniform" colour.
