UK homeowners 'confuse loose wood flooring with ghosts'

Homeowners in the UK are confusing their loose wood flooring and other home maintenance problems with ghosts, it has been revealed.

A survey conducted by Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks found that more than one in ten British homeowners believe their house to be haunted.

Retail director for Clydesdale Bank Steve Reid commented on the findings, which indicated that 40 per cent of homeowners would be moved to sell their home if they experienced supernatural occurrences there.

"In reality, 99 per cent of noises and seemingly strange occurrences have perfectly reasonable explanations - like loose floorboards, birds nesting in the loft or a dodgy boiler," he said.

Gender differences were also noted in the survey, with men being less likely to be perturbed by spooky goings on than their female counterparts.

According to Hauntedplaces.co.uk, ghosts have been detected in many of Britain's stately homes, castles, ancient inns, theatres, farmhouses and cottages.
