Spruce up wood floors, homeowners advised

Wood flooring should be the start of any home improvement project, it has been claimed.

Writing for Fox Business, columnist Shannon Dauphin claimed that homeowners seeking to renovate their property should start by "getting to the bottom of things" and tackle their wood floors.

She also promoted the use of laminate flooring, stating that the material has the aesthetic benefits of timber.

"They are put together with a snap-and-lock system, which requires no nailing or gluing. The finished laminate … can give you a great new look," said Ms Dauphin.

She went on to recommend tackling the kitchen, but claimed that winter is not always the best time to undertake such a project.

However, there are a number of smaller tasks which homeowners can take on during the festive period and she recommending refacing the cabinets or changing out countertops.

Her comments follow a recent advice column in the Toronto sun, in which Howard Bogarch issued a range of tips on how to protect wood floors from moisture damage.
