Solid wood floors are 'elegant'

The benefits of solid wood floors have been promoted in a new maintenance guide.

Writing for the Savannah Morning News, cleaning expert Ashely Hubbard of Hubbard's Maid Service revealed her top tip for maintaining "elegant" wood floors is to leave them alone for the majority of the time.

"The less moisture put on hardwood floors, the better. This helps retain the beautiful finish. I only damp mop my floors once every five to six weeks," she said.

Ms Hubbard went on to reveal that, after six years, her floors still appeared brand new, despite the low level of maintenance.

However, she acknowledged that homeowners with pets or children may need to clean more regularly. In cases such as this, she recommends using a barely-damp cloth for mopping.

Similar advice was issued earlier in the month by the Good Housekeeping Research Institute. It told the Salt Lake Tribune that wood floors required little maintenance to be kept in top shape.
