Solid wood flooring may be chosen for eco-towns

Solid wood flooring could be selected for a pair of eco-town developments that have been announced by the government.

Housing and planning minister John Healey stated that two councils have shown a willingness to progress with eco-friendly housebuilding projects.

Fareham Borough Council has plans for more than 7,000 new homes, while East Devon District Council would like to build a development of about 3,500 houses.

Mr Healey said that living in the eco-towns would give people the opportunity to save money on their energy bills, as well as to reduce their emissions.

"We know we need greener, renewable energy if we are to meet our ambitious low carbon targets. Ways and means for people to access this energy needs to be quicker and easier," he commented.

Solid wood flooring may be a good choice for the homes in the eco-towns as the material can come from a renewable source.

According to Laura Sevier, green living editor at the Ecologist, fitting solid wood flooring can be a good choice for homeowners who wish to lower their carbon footprint.
