'Sand your wood flooring' to burn calories
Wood flooring has been billed as an easy tool for homeowners to use to exercise while decorating.
In a recent Lansing State Journal article, columnist Rosie Gannett claimed that 30 to 60 minutes a day spent doing home repairs will provide an equivalent workout to a gym session.
She cited the American Medical Association as saying that house painting and lawn mowing rank "right up there" with exercises such as swimming and dancing.
Ms Gannett went on to provide suggestions on calorie burning, noting that more vigorous activities will yield better results.
"Sand your wood floors with a sander, and you'll use 237 more every hour you work," she said. "Repairs involving hammering, reaching and carrying heavy objects will use more calories."
Earlier in the month, the Arizona Republic suggested that homeowners construct their own gym.
It recommended using mood-boosting colours and adding plenty of storage space to a workout area.
