Roof problems spell water damage for wood flooring

Wood flooring has been damaged in one US home thanks to heavy snowfall.

Writing for Fox News, columnist Julie Tremmel reported on the story of the Atkins family in Athens, whose roof had been affected by a spate of harsh weather.

Following a build-up of excessive snow and ice, a dam slowly formed above the property, where water collected and seeped in to the house.

"Your feet squished when you walked," said Russ Atkins. "And you could also see the water coming in through the hardwood flooring."

Mr Atkins was forced to hire contractors to go over his home, removing one wall and tearing up all the wood flooring in the affected area.

Industrial fans and a dehumidifier were also brought in to combat the water damage and Mr Atkins claimed he is fortunate to have been insured.

This comes after a Pocono Record guide hailed dehumidifiers as a great way for homeowners to tackle moisture issues in their cellars.
