Radiant heat works well with solid wood floors, claims expert
Energy-efficient radiant heat systems can be used to good effect with solid wood floors, according to one expert.
In a recent Washington Post article, Tim Carter advised a reader that radiant heating systems did not have to compromise on aesthetics and could successfully be used alongside hardwood floors.
"In the past few years [flooring manufacturers] have worked in conjunction with the radiant-heating industry to develop standards that allow gorgeous hardwood floors to be installed," he said.
His comments follow advice from Telegraph DIY guru Jeff Howell. Last month he claimed that wood flooring is often better for people living in older houses which suffered from damp problems.
Mr Carter claimed that radiant heating systems are superior to traditional heating and said they produce "the most luxurious heat" he had ever encountered.
He also advised that, when installed correctly, the radiant heating system would not affect the hardwood floor, meaning no cracks will develop from heat expansion.
