Oak wood floors recommended for green homeowners
Oak wood floors may be a good option for homeowners who want to reduce their energy bills.
Householder Chris Handel, who lives in a 1920s house near Brighton, said installing oak wood floors has helped him to save cash.
He explained that the house was losing around 15 per cent of its heat through the floors, so something had to be done.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, he said: "After taking advice from our architect, we laid rigid foam boards on top of the floorboards, laid chipboard on top of that and then topped it with new oak floorboards from sustainable sources."
Mr Handel said adding the oak wood floors was more than worth it because of the savings he makes as a result.
His annual heating bill now stands at around £400 a year, compared to the £1,200 he paid before carrying out the work.
Green home improvers Jan and George Hetherington recently told the Peterborough Evening Gazette that their DIY projects increased the value of their home.
