Locals raise funds for wood flooring in veteran's home
A community has banded together in an effort to raise sufficient funds to purchase wood flooring in the home of one veteran.
Hardwood Floors magazine reports that building contractors, government representatives and non-profit organisations have joined forces to help build an extension on the home of former marine Josh Himan.
A minimum of $40,000 (£24,000) is required to complete the work but organisers are also seeking material donations of wood floors, a gas fireplace and sprinklers.
Mr Himan was paralysed from the chest down in 2009, after an improvised explosive device hit his military vehicle in Afghanistan.
He is currently undergoing treatment at an Army hospital but requires accessible fixtures to be installed before he can return home.
Mr Himan's mother Patricia told Inside Nova that the support of the community has been "overwhelming" and his brother Jacob expressed his excitement for the project.
"It really is like Christmas right now. The biggest thing is seeing everybody's willingness to serve has really made me want to serve others more," he said.
