Keeping wood floors clean is 'fairly simple'
Homeowners looking for ways to keep their wood flooring in great shape have been given a range of tips to make the process quick and simple.
A recent Salt Lake Tribune article contained advice from the Good Housekeeping Research Institute on keeping wood floors spick and span.
"Shoes with rubber soles and heels can wreak havoc on polyurethaned wood flooring. Scuff marks usually 'sit' on top of a floor’s finish, so they are fairly simple to remove," it said.
The guide went on to advise homeowners to pay particular attention to high traffic areas in a house, such as halls. Over time, a build-up of dirt can form which will require wet cleaning.
In a recent Guardian article, architect Will Tunnell suggested that wood flooring can make an ideal addition to homes which see a lot of wear from teenage children.
For tricky stains such as tar and chewing gum, the Good Houskeeping guide advised that safe removal should be carried out by using a plastic bag filled with ice cubes to loosen the stain, before physically scraping it off with a spatula or credit card.
