Homeowners handed advice on green wood flooring

Homeowners who are concerned about their impact on the environment have been issued advice on selecting eco-friendly types of wood flooring.

In a recent Reuters guide, columnist Dawn Killough noted how "daunting" it can be for renovators to find the best type of green wood floors.

She observed how consumers are bombarded with information on the eco credentials of items but advised turning to mainstream hardware stores and the wood flooring on offer there.

"One seemingly obvious alternative is to buy products taken directly from nature. Wood, linoleum, bamboo, wool carpets, cork and wheatboard are a few that come to mind," Ms Killough said.

She also recommended seeking out finishes that do not contain added chemicals, such as formaldehyde.

Earlier in the month, Green Building Pro columnist John-David Hutchison claimed that green wood flooring is still a "classic" choice for environmentally-aware homeowners and noted the increasing popularity of the material.
