Guide offers stain removal tips for solid wood floors
A new guide has offered homeowners tips on dealing with substances which can severely stain solid wood floors.
Responding to a reader query in the Washington Post, Jeanne Huber told one unfortunate homeowner how to cope with stains on wood floors caused by pets.
One reader suffered a stain on her wood floors due to liquid spilling from her indoor rabbit cage and sought advice on refinishing the stained section of wood flooring.
Ms Huber also advised the reader to invest in a small amount of oil-based wood filler in a closely matching colour and use that to hide the stain.
Frank Kroupa of the National Wood Flooring Association said: "You can push it in to seal and disguise the area. If you can't see the stains, this might be good enough."
A recent study by Halifax revealed that many homeowners in the UK were increasingly willing to tackle DIY projects around the house.
Ms Huber went on to explain that if necessary, factory-finished floors could easily be replaced by a professional using replacement parts, but flooring which was finished in-place would require entirely new boards to be fitted.
