DIY enthusiast goes global for reclaimed wood
Wood floors, countertops and cabinets adorn the home of Willie Drake, a DIY enthusiast who has travelled the world in search of reclaimed wood.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Mr Drake of Mountain Lumber, a company which specialises in reclaimed wood flooring, has ventured to locations such as Poland, Ireland and China in his quest for materials.
Much of what he finds is used in his home, located on top of a 4,000-foot-high mountain, which boasts reclaimed wood in every room.
Mr Drake believes that reclaimed wood has a distinctive character and claimed he was constantly in search of "interesting" wood around the globe.
"The world is our forest," he said. "People were giving it away when we first started."
Earlier in the month, PRW.com reported ON an industry-led recycling scheme which collected over 150 tonnes of vinyl flooring in its first year.
During his travels, Mr Drake has reclaimed wood from several unusual places including the Guinness brewery's vats and ancient Chinese temples.
