Distressed wood flooring is 'big right now'

Distressed wood flooring has been identified as a growing trend in interior design.

Mlive.com columnist Kelle Barr recently consulted attendees at the Wenke Tile & Carpet display at the US Home Expo, which displayed a range of period-authentic surfaces - ranging from shag carpeting of the 1970s to 2011's commercial offerings.

She spoke to Debbie Wenke, manager and owner of the US retailer responsible for the exhibition, who claimed that distressed wood flooring is "big right now".

"Families like it because it's durable and they can use it without fear," said Ms Wenke.

Ms Barr also spoke to Joe Sikkema of Migala Carpet One, who told her about the increasing popularity of hickory as a finish.

Designer Shane Inman made similar comments on his blog last week, noting that wood flooring has a "timeless" appeal and is "guaranteed" to be met with approval by potential buyers and visitors to a home.
