'Consider the mood' when installing wood flooring

Homeowners considering adding to their home with wood flooring have been advised to consider the effect it can create.

An iAfrica.com guide to choosing surfaces detailed the ways in which trends are moving away from tiles and carpet and towards wood flooring.

It explained that homeowners are currently faced with "endless" options - particularly in types of laminate flooring.

The guide consulted Anne Roslet, a shading expert from retailer Plascon, who spoke about potential combinations of wood floors and colour schemes.

"Colours such as yellows, terracottas and reds work well with dark wooden floors and can add warmth to the room," she said.

However, Ms Roslet warned that lighter tones can also work well but can make the room "much cooler".

This comes after Poughkeepsie Journal columnist Abby Lubby hailed wood flooring for its environmental benefits and lack of dangerous chemicals.

She noted that carpet can harbour "all sorts of dirt", in addition to dust and pollen.
