Community spirit helps museum to restore solid wood flooring

A Canadian museum has restored solid wood flooring as part of renovation work.
The solid wood flooring was restored after the budget for the project at the Fernie Museum was cut, reports the Free Press.
Curator Mike Pennock said the project had snowballed after the community pitched in to help with the work, with students from Fernie Secondary School among those who volunteered.
He said: "I would invite them in, not expecting things to be done for free but explaining that we had a tight budget, and all of them helped in some way."
Layers of floor covering were ripped out to expose the original solid wood flooring, which was then restored.
Restoring solid wood flooring can be a good option as it is an environmentally-friendly choice.
Stacie Greene Hidek said in an article for the Star News that solid wood flooring could last for hundreds of years if it was properly looked after.
