Church's wood flooring covered with mulch for nativity

Wood flooring in one US church has been covered in mulch in order to authentically re-create the nativity.

News Channel 5 reports that Woodmont Christian church provided its congregation with a "unique look" at life in Bethlehem in the time of Jesus.

As part of an annual event, held each December, the house of worship was transformed into a mock-up of the ancient city.

"The south lawn of Woodmont is filled with sheep and hay ... and the wooden floor of the gymnasium finds itself covered in four inches of mulch," said News Channel 5.

Members of the church get similarly involved with the festivities, with some putting on full body makeup and costumes.

The building's lower floor is also used to house a representation of how ancient Israel may have looked on the night Jesus was born.

This comes after the Moultrie Observer reported that its First Baptist Church will this year mark the 55th anniversary of the creation of its nativity scene.
