Charity to reduce waste by recycling wood flooring
Wood flooring is being recycled by a US charity that seeks to reduce the amount of waste and energy costs associated with demolitions.
Colleen Reynolds, a columnist for 27 East reported on the efforts of Green Demolitions, whose president and founder Steve Feldman considers unused fixtures to be highly useful.
His team takes apart houses set to be destroyed and sells the items, which include wood flooring, on at a significantly reduced cost.
Members of the public also donate items to the charity's three stores in New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
Ms Reynolds spoke to Rich Raffle of ET Raffel Cabinets in Southampton, who praised the concept.
"You're able to help the environment by not having to throw things away and it's a cost saving," he said. "It works great for everybody, though it's something relatively new."
This comes after Green Building pro columnist John-David Hutchison offered homeowners tips on picking green wood flooring.
