Staining laminate flooring 'can give beauty of wood floor'

Homeowners on a budget seeking a solid wood floor may want to consider staining a laminate floor to get similar results.

Verdia Bolster said in a post for eHow that laminate flooring could be stained over a weekend to give it the beauty of a solid wood floor.

She said: "The range of colours is as varied as traditional wood products, and the staining process is the same as for wood."

Before beginning, make sure the area is well ventilated and wear safety gloves and goggles while handling the chemicals, she advised.

She added it would be helpful to have a second person on hand to wipe away the excess as another person applies the stain.

Installing laminate flooring has been recommended by product testers Which?, who said it was a good option as it was simple to install, inexpensive and available in a wide range of imitation materials.
