Laminate flooring market 'set to grow'
The laminate flooring market is predicted to grow in 2011, according to one sustainable product research specialist.
Poyry Management Consulting's Global Panel Surfacing Business report states that the sector is "heading in a new direction".
Head of sustainable consumer products for the company Dr George Goroyias claimed that the flows of items such as raw materials, semi-finished and finished products will change and create a need for new supply chain concepts.
His comments were echoed by consultant for the firm Lauma Kazusa, who claimed that surfacing markets would grow, partly thanks to new product developments in laminate flooring and furniture.
"Veneer's declining market share is mainly due to increasingly limited availability of veneer logs and cost pressures, but veneers are expected to still show growth," he said.
Last week, WRAL reported that laminate flooring had topped product hardiness tests conducted by Consumer Reports.
It found that the material is particularly effective at resisting everyday wear, such as foot traffic.
