Laminate flooring 'helps with energy efficiency'

Using laminate flooring can help a home become greener by improving its energy efficiency, it has been suggested by one interior designer.
Othmar Jacobs of Creative Design told the Evansville Courier & Press that he continually updates his own home to ensure that his energy bills remain as low as possible.
One way in which he cuts down on the use of air conditioning is via the use of wood flooring, but he added that laminate flooring would also be effective for such a task.
"By using wood you don't get trapped heat," he said.
"Even a laminate with a thinner-wearing surface will help with energy efficiency."
Last month, a newspaper columnist praised laminate flooring as a surface that is able to simulate almost any other material from wood to slate or stone.
Naoimh Tuohy of the Herald added that the material had the additional advantage of being cheaper than other options on the market.
