'Keep it simple' when cleaning laminate flooring
Laminate flooring should be cleaned using the most basic of methods, it has been claimed.
Speaking to the Journal Star, Lorraine Bartos, an extension educator at the University of Nebraska, noted that despite their great durability - laminate floors can still be harmed by spills and stains.
However, homeowners need not go to extraordinary lengths to tackle these issues as she claimed the simplest cleaning techniques will suffice.
"Wiping with a damp cloth will take care of most spills. Flooding a laminated surface or immersing it in water may damage the glue lines and cause the support material to swell and warp," Ms Bartos said.
She went on to recommend tackling grease stains with a glass cleaner or all-purpose spray before wiping with a soft cloth.
Ms Bartos also claimed similar results can be achieved by using vinegar and hot water.
A recent Calgary Herald guide recommended the use of a specialised cleaner on laminate floors, as prolonged exposure to water can cause harm.
