Home improvers 'getting braver with wallpaper designs'
Householders are becoming braver about the interior design of their property, according to a wallpaper expert.
David Walker, sales director of Sanderson and Zoffany, stated that when he first started working in the wallpaper industry almost 25 years ago, the most popular prints were small, floral designs.
Property owners are now choosing bolder and brighter patterns for their wallpaper as part of their home improvement plans, he added.
Speaking to the Independent, Mr Walker said: "There is a strong metallic trend at the moment and we have been amazed how contemporary and popular the Twenties designs have proved to be."
Mr Walker advised home improvers to ensure they strip off all the old paper before attempting to lay new wallpaper.
He also said couples should never try to handle this home improvement project together, because "this is guaranteed to end in major marital discord".
This comes after the latest High Street Sales Tracker from BDO LLP found that spending on DIY materials increased by almost five per cent in April 2010 compared to March.
