Home improvements 'can provide good return on investment'

Carrying out home improvements could have a number of advantages further down the line, according to a columnist.

JW Elphinstone of the Associated Press said revamping a property "pays back more than you put in".

The correspondent stated that this is because sensible improvements can drive up the value of a house.

Homeowners were also advised that refurbishments could help a property stand out to prospective buyers when it goes on the market.

Darius Baker, owner of D&J Kitchens & Baths, suggested that improving the floors may be one ideal home improvement, along with adding new doors to cabinets.

This, he stated, is because these simple cosmetic changes would be easy to implement and are highly affordable.

"I would do the least amount of work to make it look as good as possible," Mr Baker added.

This comes after research by Saga found that one in four over-50s carry out DIY tasks on a regular basis.
