Fitting laminate flooring 'is doable'

Homeowners who are looking to carry out improvements to their property have been advised that DIY jobs such as installing laminate flooring are "doable".

That is the view of Francesca Gamble, press officer for the Ideal Home Show, who stated that people are getting "a little bit lazy" and no longer have the required skills to do work themselves.

"If your kids aren't watching you do it then they are never going to learn, so their first point of call wouldn't be to do it themselves," she commented.

Ms Gamble added that she believes passing on skills such as learning how to fit laminate flooring should become a part of family life.

She was speaking after Halifax Home Insurance revealed that £400 million worth of damage was caused by Britons carrying out DIY work last year.

The research showed that two-thirds of Britons lack the "spatial awareness" to carry out home improvement tasks such as fitting laminate flooring.
