Could laminate flooring suit a 'social' kitchen?

Laminate flooring is an option for kitchens that are designed to be a social space.

According to editor of Essential Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Ronnie Whelan, the kitchen is an area worth spending money on, since its function has changed in recent years.

She said: "With a trend for more open-plan living, it is the hub of the home where all the family can congregate, so it can cater for many different other activities."

Ms Whelan explained that the kitchen used to be just a room for people to cook, which meant it just needed to be "functional".

In her view, a big design trend for such rooms in the future is likely to be high-gloss finishes, which could complement laminate flooring well.

Research by LV= shows the kitchen is worth nearly £4,000 on average, making it the most expensive room in the house.

Ms Whelan suggested such investment makes sense, since it can add value to a property.
