Could laminate flooring help sell your house?

Homeowners could find it easier to sell their property if they make improvements to the interior, such as installing laminate flooring.

Head of mortgages at the Post Office Mike Cook explained there are certain out-dated fads such as artex walls and built-in bars may not be aiding the selling process.

In his opinion, people could make their house more appealing to a greater number of buyers by cutting out some of the less attractive interior design features in the property.

"Making improvements to your home before you put it on the market can make all the difference between a forever lingering 'for-sale' sign and sealing the deal," said Mr Cook.

Artex walls were named the worst interior design trend in a poll by the company, with avocado bathrooms and woodchip walls finishing second and third respectively.

Last week, home improvement expert Steve Savage told the Colorado Daily Camera that staining wood flooring can form part of an environmentally-friendly home renovation.
