'Buy extra laminate flooring' when renovating

Homeowners who are renovating their property have been advised to buy extra laminate flooring.

A recent eHow guide to installing laminate floors informed homeowners of ways in which to make the process go smoothly.

It recommended buying around 20 per cent more laminate flooring than is required for the space.

"This is important because you may make some mistakes or there may be some pieces that are discoloured. Also, you will want to keep some after installation," said the guide.

It went on to advise homeowners to ensure they have all their materials to hand before beginning and claimed that laying out the flooring will give renovators a chance to see how it will fit together.

Similarly, the guide also recommended letting the material air out for a couple of days - in order to allow it to become acclimatised to a home's atmosphere.

This comes after a Seattle Times article claimed that laminate floors can prevent slips in rooms like the kitchen.
